Detail a good working biogas digester?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
Has anyone found any good links or info on biogas digesters that are capable of running a house? I have a lot of links but I would like to find some really complete home digester information. I have a ready source of bio material, the base of which is seaweed seeded with cow manure. Any good info out there?

Where can I find/get/buy golden bamboo (phyllostachys aurea) seeds or bulbs under a lower budget?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
Yes, I know. Very vague, right? So here’s some information that could help you help me if anyone would be so kind.
I want to grow Golden Bamboo, which I have read and researched is good to grow in the colder U.S. climates where I live. I want to grow, care for, harvest and make things like flutes, musical instruments, windchimes, staffs and perhaps screens and such. I know it’s a bit of a dream knowing I have um…no prior experience, but i’ve read e-books, and because the Golden Bamboo is a running species, I will hopefully be able to harvest enough for CAREFUL trial and error procedures on the things I’ll be making.
Any information on the species is also very much appreciated.
My budget is bendable, but the lowest price you can find would be nice. I would appreciate seeds or bulbs or whatever they call the flowered parts, so I can experience the growth from the very begining, thus learning more about bamboo, which somehow intruiges me deeply. Thanks much.

Growing string beans from immature seeds, possible? Likely results?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
Yes, I KNOW that the seeds in the string beans you eat are immature, and you’re supposed to let them develop fully before planting them. But the characters in my novel don’t know that! And there’s nowhere they can get help or information. So please help me with this. They’re trying to grow string beans from seeds taken from string beans that were bought at the market and intended to be eaten.
Will anything grow at all? For the purposes of the story, it will be all right if they don’t get many string beans to grow from their planting, or if the bushes are stunted, etc. As long as they get a crop and can figure out how to grow them right in subsequent years.
Should they be shelled out and planted, or just plant the whole pod? And would peas be similar? Should they be dried before planting, or allowed to sprout before planting or what?
I’m not interested in learning to garden and I’m not actually going to grow anything. I just want to make this amusing for my readers who are gardeners without making it too disastrous on my characters.
Serious answers only, please. Thanks in advance!

plants growing in the dark?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
If i plant a radish seed in the soil, and it receives no sunlight, will it actually grow. I will have to measure it after 3 weeks.
So, what do you think the height would most likely be. I think it would be less than 5 inches.
Do you have an idea how much a plant would grow in the dark (no sunlight) after 3 weeks? You can give information about plants in general or about radish plants.
Thank you!

Ornamental Pepper Planting Depth?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
I recently bought seeds on eBay for the Black Pearl Ornamental Pepper. Came with growing information, but not a depth at which to plant the seeds. Anyone have experience with growing them or other ornamental peppers? What is the Planting Depth?
Again, these are from seed, so they are not live plants yet, they still need to germinate. I have grown several other plants this year, and some of them won’t germinate if they get planted too far down, and some of them if they are planted to high in the soil, they won’t grow properly.

I just planted watermelon seeds a few weeks ago. They just started growing yesterday. I haven’t found much luck looking up growing instructions, life cycles, watering tips, or anything! Anyone got any info for me?

What kind of tree is this?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
I live in Northern Mississippi. We have recently started clearing some property and notice some trees that we would like to know more about. They seem to grow in clumps, have very curvy trunks, the leaves look like fern and they seem to flower, though the flowers have all turned brown and gone to seed. The flowers look like upright lilacs. The trees that we are finding stand about 6 feet tall with a nice spread on the branches. Anyone have any information, it would be appreciated.

osmanthus fragrans seed?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | Comments Off
I have seeds for Osmanthus fragrans, and I see that they can take a *very* long time to germinate… years, in fact. Has anyone done this? Is there something I can do to speed the process? I’m willing to experiment: boiling water, hydrogen peroxide, the old nick&soak, “smoke treatment,” whatever. I can’t find any information about this.
Thanks.
Angela
