I have some seeds I would like to dry out and make into a potted plant to see if I can get them to grow. If anyone has any information that could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

When you look at any blooming flower, whether it is a tulip or a wildflower, you see the very last stage of its growth. Not all flowers start the same way, though. There is a difference between a tulip bulb and a seed that every gardener should know. To learn more, read the following information.

Let’s start with the basic definition of an ordinary flower bulb. There are many different definitions you can find on gardening websites. Here are two similar, but different definitions:

An underground leaf bud enwrapped in fleshy scales or coats.

An underground storage organ made up of fleshy scales wrapped around each other from which flowers and leaves are produced.

Let’s pull out the common elements. A tulip bulb is the bottom part of a tulip plant. When the bulb is planted in the soil and begins to come to life, roots and shoots break through the outer wall. Roots dig deeper into the soil to collect water and nutrients. Shoots grow upward and break through the surface of the soil and grow into the green plant that bears a tulip flower.

A bulb is a “storage organ.” It stores food in the “fleshy scales” around the “core” of the bulb. That core grows into next year’s plant.

According to Wikipedia, a seed is a small embryonic plant enclosed in a covering called the seed coat, usually with some stored food. The seed coat is a hard case that protects the tiny plant inside. Seeds grow inside a flower or fruit. A seed can be harvested, cleaned, dried and planted to grow new flowers and plants.

You can find tulip seeds within the seed pod in tulip flowers. The pod needs to be pollinated so that the seeds will grow. When the flower dies, you can extract seeds from the pod and plant them the following September. Just be aware that it can take several years before you see a flower on a tulip grown from a seed. Some gardening authorities state that it can take five-to-seven years before these tulips to produce blossoms. A tulip bulb is different from a seed because a bulb will produce a tulip plant and flower the very next year. Make sure to plant either one in the right soil with proper watering and care.

A seed can be as tiny as a poppy seed or as large as a peach pit. The biggest seed in the plant kingdom is from a coco de mer palm tree found in the Silhouette Islands in the Seychelles. That seed can weigh up to 17.6 kilograms or 38 pounds!

Tulip bulbs are very large compared to most flower seeds. A tulip bulb is measured by its circumference. A typical tulip bulb is 11-12 centimeters in circumference which translates to 1.5 inches in diameter. An average tulip bulb measures between 1.5 inches and 3 inches long.

Here’s one more, significant difference between a tulip bulb and a seed. Seeds often grow at the furthest end of a plant, tree or flower. Bulbs do not. A tulip bulbs multiplies by dividing into two bulbs that are attached to each other near the roots of the plant.

I know there exists a wide variety of industrial hemp cultivars produced for specific uses; long fibre, high yield bio-mass, and high yield seed production (for oil/resin). I have searched and searched and can find no information on average oil yeilds per acre for the seed producing variety of hemp.

I am going to give you three tips that can totally transform your skin. When I suffered with eczema my skin was dry, scaly and had open wounds.

But when I changed my diet I found within a few days the characteristics of my skin changed. I kept up with the diet and after several months my skin had totally changed.

To achieve skin that is healthy, hydrated, smooth and clear you need to improve the amount of raw foods that you eat.

Prior to changing to an eczema diet I eat the wrong foods. I eat fatty and junk foods regularly.

Because I drank so many cups of tea each day I had a lot of sugar and biscuits to go with it.

As a result my skin was always itchy, I was always itchy and my skin condition continued to deteriorate on a monthly basis.

Here are three useful tips to begin to make a change in your skin.

Information on Eczema tip #1 – Drink at least 7 glasses of water every day. Filtered water is fine. In the summer months you should drink more. It is essential that you keep your skin hydrated and moist. Water also helps to cleanse your body of toxins via the colon and kidneys.

Information on Eczema tip #2 – Eat plenty of foods containing antioxidants. Fresh vegetables and fruits are a good source of antioxidants.

Information on Eczema tip #3 – Eat foods that contain essential fatty acids. Foods such as seeds, whole grains, green leafy vegetables and flax seed oils are a good source.

Information on Eczema tip #4 – Eat more natural fibre in your diet. Fibre will keep your regular and enhance the elimination of waste.

I’m really not sure about the spelling here! There was a restaurant in my town that served this – they spelled it this way. It was also called a Mediterranean breakfast pizza. It was basically a prepared pizza crust, covered with this spice mixture that was made into a paste with olive oil. It also had sesame seeds. It was covered with diced fresh tomato and onion, then drizzled with more extra virgin. It was delicious, and I can’t find it anywhere on the web. I’m looking for information on the spice mixture, of course. Any recipes or information out there?

The Benefits of Flax Seed Oil

Filed Under Non Fiction | Comments Off

Scott White asked:

Flax seed is a plant that grows in the tropics. It is cultivated mainly for its seeds and fiber. The seeds of this plant contain oil which is drained from the seeds to make an oil for a multitude of health benefits. While the fiber is used to make cloth and paper.

BENEFITS:

1. A rich source of fatty acids and a great source of protein, both of which the body uses for fuel.

2. The oil also mixes with these fatty acids in the body to help the body make HDL, the healthy type of cholesterol while reducing LDL, the unhealthy type of cholesterol.

3. With high amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber which helps keep the bowels moving regularly to rid the body of the toxins that can lead to diseases, it is a great benefit to gastronomical health.

4. Research has shown that flax seed oil attaches itself to toxic bacteria protecting sensitive mucous membranes of the colon and gastric intestinal tract as the bacteria passes through them. This action is believed to deter the ability of toxic bacteria to produce cancerous tumors in the gastric intestinal tract and colon.

5. Taken by mouth it is used to relieve the stress on the body caused by some diseases and even to circumvent damage to the body that can result from gastric disorders.

6. A high percentage of the uncomfortable symptoms caused by irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitus, gastritis, and other gastric disorders and disease can be relieved with oral doses of flax seed oil.

7. When used as an ointment for minor burns, rashes, bug bites, and other irritations on the skin it offers relief from pain, burning, or itching and can also help speed the natural healing process of skin repair and renewal.

8. Benefits the heart and is known to prevent cancer.

9. By lowering blood sugar levels, it may help with diabetes patients.

10. Used to make linen, cotton, lace, rope, twine, yarn and paper.

There are many other benefits to flax seed oil that have not been mentioned here. The benefits have been well documented and have been approved for use in many countries, but in the United States, it is considered an herbal supplement and regulated as such. The FDA has yet to give its approval and recommendations for the use of flax seed.

As with any herbal supplement you should take steps to safeguard your health before buying and using these products. All herbal supplements should have a label that contain the following information: was the product made in a laboratory so that you know that the manufacturer had to meet certain safety and health standards to bring this product to market; do the labels list the ingredients and the percentage of how much of each ingredient was used in the making of the herbal supplement; are there precautionary statements to warn people of the potential health risks some people may experience by using this herbal supplement?

Your safety and health should be your primary concern when considering the use of herbal supplements. Many of them can be used safely and do offer many benefits, but avoid those herbal supplements not made in a laboratory or another regulated setting or with labels that do not tell you what ingredients were used to make the product.

There are a number of trustworthy internet resources such as public education and awareness websites that provide consumers with complete information on many subjects including flax seed oil and its benefits.

Kangaroo Jack asked:

Coffee is made from those little beans that wake us up on the mornings and get most of us through the day. There is nothing quite like a cozy cup of gourmet coffee after a rough day or celebrating a great day.

This careful examination process shows why Starbucks passion for buying, roasting the world’s best coffee and utilizing it’s gourmet coffee information to give the consumers the best coffee ever.

How does Starbucks roast their coffee

Starbucks takes pride in how they roast their coffee. The Starbucks Roast has a distinct color and brings out a very strong taste and aroma with maximum flavor. Starbucks uses its gourmet coffee information to roast the green coffee beans by heating them in a large rotating drum. It takes about seven minutes of intense heat before much of the moisture in the beans evaporates. The beans turn into a yellow color and smell similar to popcorn. The gourmet coffee information reveals that the beans will come out double in size and crackle as they expand. They are now light brown. After the first pop in the rotating drum, it is apparent that the coffee is almost roasted.

What happens to Starbucks coffee at harvest time

When it is time to harvest the coffee, Starbucks uses its gourmet coffee information to be able to identify that the coffee is ready to picked when it has a bright red color. The coffee is then picked and examined. The coffee skin looks very thick and has a bitter flavor. There is a type of fruitlike substance beneath the skin that is intensely sweet. Below the fruit is the parchment that is covered with mucilage. This mucilage serves as a protective cover for the seed, similar to that of an apple seed.

In addition to harvesting their own coffee, Starbuck’s gourmet coffee information allows them to evaluate thousands of samples each year to improve their stock. The coffee is examined by roasting small portions of coffee and doing a taste test. There is a small amount of these that get selected. Juliet Cohen asked:

Colonic diverticulosis is among the most common diseases of developed Western countries. Colonic diverticuli are mucosal outpouchings that usually appear with aging mainly in the left colon, leading to what we call diverticular disease. Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches on the outside of the colon. Diverticulitis results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed. In the United States, diverticulosis occurs in approximately one third of the population older than age 45 and in up to two thirds of the population older than age 85 and it also affects a significant proportion of younger adults. Most patients with diverticular disease have no or few symptoms, some patients will develop bleeding, infection constipation, abdominal cramps, and even colon obstruction.

There are many causes of colonic diverticulitis. Diverticulitis occurs when diverticula become infected or inflamed. Abnormal contraction and spasm may cause diverticula to form in a weak spot of the intestinal wall. Most fiber in the human diet is of plant origin and this type of fiber binds water and salt within the colon leading to bulkier and more voluminous stools. Low fiber diets may play a role in the development of diverticulosis. In rural Africa where the diet is high in roughage, diverticulosis is rare. There also appears to be a genetic predisposition to diverticulosis. High pressure may develop in parts of your gut when it squeezes hard stools. The increased pressure may push the inner lining of a small area of your gut through the muscle wall to form a small diverticulum.

Symptoms of colonic diverticulitis is lower abdomen, bloating, and/or a change in bowel habits. Acute diverticulitis is usually treated with conservative medical management, including bowel rest (ie, nothing by mouth), IV fluid resuscitation, and broad-spectrum antibiotics which cover anaerobic bacteria and gram-negative rods. In some cases surgery may be required to remove the area of the colon with the diverticula. A high-fiber diet and, occasionally, mild pain medications will help relieve symptoms in most cases. Several antibiotics include ciprofloxacin (Cipro), metronidazole (Flagyl), cephalexin (Keflex), and doxycycline (Vibramycin) also recommended. Sometimes instructed to avoid foods that contain undigestible particles such as popcorn, nuts and fruits with small seeds.

Colonic Diverticulitis Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Eat lots of high fibre foods and fibre supplements.

2. Surgery is needed for those with persistent bowel obstruction.

3. Mild pain medications will help relieve symptoms in most cases.

4. Avoid foods that contain undigestible particles such as popcorn, nuts and fruits with small seeds.

5. A temporary colostomy may be required during surgery for complicated diverticulitis.

Vitamin B17 was the subject of great controversy over 20 years ago when some of the world’s top scientists claimed that when consumed, the components of the seed make it 100% impossible to develop cancer and will kill existing cancer in most cases. The pharmaceutical companies pounced on this claim immediately and demanded that FDA studies be conducted. The results of these studies are found in the book “World Without Cancer”, by G. Edward Griffin. To order the book call 877-479-3466.

Vitamin B-17, also know as Laetrile and Amygdalin is found in most fruit seeds… namely apricot seeds. The apricot seed was claimed as the cure for all cancers over 35 years ago.

It was even more strongly claimed that when one eats about 7 apricot seeds per day they can never develop cancer, just as one can never get scurvy if they have an orange every day, or pellagra if they have some B vitamins every day.

The pharmaceuticals companies together with the medical establishment pushed the FDA into making it illegal to sell “raw” apricot seeds or vitamin B17 with information about its effects on cancer. Even to this day, you can’t get raw apricot seeds in your health food store, only the sun dried ones which have all the important enzymes killed off.

Pharmaceutical companies only conduct studies on patented chemicals they invent so that at the end of their study, if the drug gets approved, they have sole rights on its sale. (They make back tons more than the mere 250 million that they invested) They never do studies on foods that can’t be patented and that can be sold by any supermarket.

The information on this site is not just for preventing cancer, it is for those that have cancer now and are on chemo or radiation at this moment, as well as for those who have cancer but haven’t started any conventional methods yet.

Most of the people that already have cancer clusters in their body, who eat the apricot seeds and/or take the vitamin b17 in tablet form show near to complete tumor regression. Although cancer patients may get rid of their cancer, they also have the problem of the organ damage that the cancer has caused. This is another issue where other herbs and remedies are necessary for proper organ regeneration. Of course when a person’s body is completely eaten up by cancer, the apricot seeds and its extract (laetrile and vitamin b17) would only prolong their life many times longer than chemotherapy and might not completely save them. However in many cases high levels of the injectable laetrile will help a great deal with the pain.
