Ulcerative colitis is a disease that causes inflammation and sores, called ulcers, in the lining of the rectum and colon. Ulcers form where inflammation has killed the cells that usually line the colon, then bleed and produce pus. Inflammation in the colon also causes the colon to empty frequently, causing diarrhea.

Colitis usually begins in the lower part of the colon and spreads upwards. The first symptom of the trouble is an increased urgency to move the bowel, followed by cramping pains in the abdomen and, sometimes, bloody mucus in the stools. As the disease spreads upward, the stools become watery and more frequent and are characterised by rectal straining. The loss of blood and fluid from the bowels results in weakness, fever, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and anaemia.

Mesalamine (Asacol, Rowasa) and olsalazine (Dipentum). These medications tend to have fewer side effects than sulfasalazine has. You take them in tablet form or use them rectally in the form of ****** or suppositories, depending on the area of your colon affected by ulcerative colitis. Mesalamine ****** can relieve signs and symptoms in more than 80 percent of people with ulcerative colitis in the lower left side of their colon and rectum. Olsalazine may cause or worsen existing diarrhea in some people.

The primary goal of treating ulcerative colitis is to reduce the inflammation that triggers symptoms. In many cases, medication can control symptoms, but surgery may be required when medical therapy fails or if signs of colon cancer develop. Ulcerative colitis can be cured by removal of the entire colon. Treatment depends on the location and severity of the disease, the presence of complications and the patient’s response to medications.

Cholestyramine (Questran), an agent that binds bile salts, helps to manage diarrhea associated with Crohn disease, particularly in people who have had part of their small intestine removed. Bentyl may relieve intestinal spasms.

Doctors will usually try to put you on a low-fiber diet. The exact opposite is required to cure yourself of colitis. Doctors will try to keep your colitis going so that they can continue to keep you on the drugs and steroids, and possibly end up hospitalizing you, or killing you, which makes a killing for them. Steroids may decrease inflammation, but they also decrease your ability to fight infections and can possibly take such a toll on your immune system that you become dangerously ill or even die.

Balanced diet is a must to keep your body fit and healthy. Patient suffering from colitis should take food rich in green leafy vegetables like cabbage, carrot, etc. There diet should also include fruits like papaya, apple, and banana. However, citrus fruits like orange should be strictly avoided. Patients are kept juice diet, in which they can only take freshly prepared juice 3-4 times a day. This continues for 8-9 days, after that they can be given balanced diet, including whole wheat grain, etc. Junk foods, sweets, chocolates, hard and soft drink should be strictly avoided.

After the juice fast, ,the patient should gradually adopt a diet of small, frequent meals of soft cooked or steamed vegetables, rice, and well-ripened fruits like banana, papaya, yoghurt and home-made cottage cheese. Sprouted seeds and grains, whole wheat bread and raw vegetables may be added gradually to this diet after about 10 days. Tender coconut water is highly beneficial as it is soothing to the soft mucosa of the colon. Cooked apple also aids the healing of ulcerative conditions because of its ample concentration of iron and phosphorus. All foods must be eaten slowly and chewed thoroughly.

About Bonsai Seeds

The question we will answer in this article is: Do bonsai seeds exist? The answer is NO. There is no such thing as bonsai seeds. However, tree seeds exist. Let me explain.

You cannot plant a supposed “bonsai seed” and expect to grow a masterpiece bonsai. At most, you will get a tree in a pot, which is the equivalent of the literal translation of the Japanese term “bonsai”. Furthermore, a simple stick in a pot will not pay much homage to the long refined Japanese art that is bonsai. Like many art forms, rules of design exist. Those rules and the techniques to apply them will keep a dwarf tree and make it appear to be a miniature tree in all of his proportion resulting in what we call a Bonsai.

Therefore, if there are no bonsai seeds, which seeds should I purchase? The answer is: any tree seeds. In fact, all seeds advertised as “bonsai seeds” are only tree seeds. If you plant them, do not utilize proper techniques and give the tree the opportunity to reach maturity, it will become a tree similar to those found on your street or at the park. With a few exceptions, such as genetic deformation in the core of the seeds and malformation in the growing process, all seeds are tree seeds.

However, some seeds will produce dwarf trees even though they are of the same species. These seeds derive from a plant affected by a type of fungus called the “Apiosporina collinsii”, which will attack the genetics of the seed. This new genetic code will be reproduced in the seed. We must inform you that these genetically modified trees rarely produce seeds, so they are pretty rare. In English, they are referred to as “Witch broom” and “Yatsubusa” in Japanese. Yatsubusa, meaning eight (8) buds, refers to the very compact growth habit of these plants. For the previously mentioned reason, the easiest method to obtain a Yatsubusa is to propagate with cuttings rather than seeds.

In conclusion, we can write of “bonsai seeds” being at most, tree seeds of species preferred by bonsai enthusiasts. http://www.mishobonsai.com is all about providing tree seeds of the species you prefer to grow as bonsai.

I bought seed for chives and rosemary and I plan on planting them today. I’ve never grown anything before so I figured herbs would be easier for me. Can anyone give me some basic information on how to go about this? Or any tips?

Do I water them a lot, or let them dry out?

Anyone who takes a great interest in gardening should be aware of how important healthy flower seeds are for growing nice plants. Taking flowers through all the evolution stages from seed to blossom requires a lot of care, not to mention that harmonious development highly depends on the pre-plantation stages. There are a few things you should check in order to get an idea over the flower seeds you intend to use. Many gardeners consider that nothing compares with the flower seeds that you spare and preserve yourself; yet, if you do so, it is a must that you take all the measures necessary to prevent mold formation or any degradation caused by excessive humidity or dryness.

First of all, only those flower seeds that are absolutely perfect from a “genetic” point of view should be preserved: how can you tell the difference? The best way is to use some magnifying lenses and have a close look at the seeds so as to be able to spot minor defects. Unhealthy flower seeds are not likely to give life to strong and beautiful plants, whereas seeds that have the proper consistency and size are the most looked for. You can consult some gardening books and learn some tricks about how to preserve flower seeds well.

There are advantages and disadvantages about the flower seeds you can purchase directly from special stores or simply order online. Here we mainly refer to how old the flower seeds are, and what sort of chemical treatments they may have been exposed to so as to prevent decay. Quality flower seeds should have the same color even when dry, and you can tell the age of a seed by merely analyzing its color. The less intense the color, the older the seed. However, in order to be able to do that at home, your eyes must be familiar with the look of a healthy dry seed.

Furthermore, don’t buy only the cheapest flower seeds you can find; you may save a few bucks, but you don’t have the same quality warranty as when purchasing the seeds from a trustworthy and famous company. Always check the label of the product to find out whether the flower seeds have been exposed to any form of chemical treatment or not; usually, manufacturers must inscribe the preservation process on the package, and without such information, the quality of the seeds is not reliable.

John Harricharan asked:

More often than I care to admit, I bump into a problem that shakes the very core of my being and challenges the heart of my belief system. At such times, I feel the world closing in around me and a tendency toward desperation begins to raise its ugly head. My first impulse is to fight back, to attack the attacker, to react by either running from or toward the problem.

But I do not follow my first impulse any longer. I now stand back and look at the problem for a while. I observe it from different points of view, all the while realizing that I am not the problem but that the problem is just an indication of a small adjustment I have to make in my thinking.

No problem is bigger and more powerful than we are. We are all children of the Infinite. The Universe is biased on our side. We have within us untapped strength and wisdom to deal with all challenges that come our way.

All problems have within them the seeds of their solution. We must learn to listen to the Silence, to hear the instructions from within and to follow the “still small voice.” Life whispers to us all the time. It tells us to go this way or that, to take this road or the other. When we are frightened by what appears to be major problems, we block the “still, small voice” from our consciousness and only hear the howling winds and the thunder of the storm.

Find a quiet spot in the middle of the turbulence. Go to a quiet place within your soul and stay there for a short while. Do not rant and rave at the problem. Just go to this spot and let your fears be calmed, even for a moment. Don’t listen to the call of the problem but, rather, listen for a few seconds to the song of your soul.

I often say that it’s not what’s happening around you that causes anxiety, but what you think about what’s happening around you. Remove your thoughts from the problem for a short while. Don’t try NOT to think about the problem. That doesn’t work. Just remove your focus from the problem and think of something else. With a little practice, it becomes second nature.

Know that you’re bigger and stronger than anything that seems to annoy you. Look away, for a short while, from your problem and know that its solution is coming to you. Trust the force that created you and placed you in this part of the universe. Trust the process that has sustained you until now. Let go of the problem. Remember that it is not the problem that’s holding on to you, but that it’s you who are holding on to it.

Let it go. Don’t be like the man who was frantically rowing away from shore while his boat was firmly tied to the dock. If you want to get to the other side of the problem, you must cut the rope that’s holding you to the dock.

Soon you’ll begin to see signs that you’re on your way to success. Don’t stop what you’re doing and look around all day for such signs. You WILL see them. Ideas will come to you. You’ll have strange urges to take action by calling someone, writing a letter, sending an email. This is the “still, small voice” speaking to you.

Your problems are not more powerful than you are. You have the key to success. It is your birthright. No one can ever take it away from you. Be still and know who you are. Be calm and feel the countless tides of the centuries running through your mind. Know that you’re unique and that there is not another human being on this earth that has the combination of talents and abilities you have. You are as valid as the sun and the stars.

As Commander Spock would say…”Live long and prosper.”

Kyle J. Norton asked:

As we mentioned in previous articles, endometriosis growing somewhere else other than the endometrium also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. As we know, herbs play a very important role in some cultures in treating all kinds of diseases. In this article, we will discuss how fennel seed helps to treat endometriosis.

I. Definition

Fennel is a plant in the genus foeniculum family and is also known as xiao hui xiang in Chinese medicine. It has been used for thousand of years to enhance lactation, treat absence of period, and loss of appetite.

II. How fennel seed effects women with endometriosis

1. Phytoestrogen

Fennel seed contains phytoestrogen which inhibits the level of estrogen if it is too high, and raise the level of estrogen if it is too low. For that reason, it has been used in treating hormonal imbalance that causes menstrual disorder, such as cramps and nervous tension.

2. Absence of proriod

It is said that fennel seed helps to release the blood stagnation in the abdomen caused by imbalance of the yang and ying qi. By increasing the blood flow to the region, it helps to bring back the harmony of the reproductive organ resulting in smoothing the uterine muscles as well as bringing on the absence of period.

3. Liver enhancer

Fennel seed helps to normalize the liver function that increases the liver in fat and protein metabolism which helps to inhibit the bad estrogen in the women\’s body before or during menstrual cycle. High levels of bad estrogen not only elevates endometrial cramps but also increases the risk of cancer and abnormal cell growth

4. Digestive system

It is also a herb used to increase the function of digestive system resulting in better absorbing of vitamins and minerals that are usually lacking in women with endometriosis during menstrual cycle.

5. Immune system

Besides helping in milk production, fennel seed also helps to strengthen the immune system in fighting against foreign invasion of bacteria, virus, and forming of free radicals as well as endometrial implants and adhesion.

Information About Florida

Dr John Anne asked:

The economy of Florida’s rests on a solid base of tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. Leading the manufacturing sector are electrical equipment and electronics, printing and publishing, transportation equipment, food processing, and machinery.

Agriculture

Oranges, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits lead Florida’s agricultural products list and some of them are potatoes, melons, strawberries, sugar cane, peanuts, dairy products, and cattle.

Economy

Florida is one of the nine states that do not impose a personal income tax. The state had imposed a tax on intangible personal property which includes stocks, bonds, mutual funds, money market funds, etc but one thing is that, this tax was abolished after 2006.Use taxes are payable for purchases made out of state and brought into Florida within six months of the purchase date. Also, there are documentary stamps, which are required on deed transfers and mortgages. Some other taxes include corporate income, communication services, unemployment, solid waste, insurance premium, pollutants, and various fuel taxes.

Food market

Florida ranked first in the United States for sales of snap beans, fresh market tomatoes, cucumbers for fresh market and cucumbers for pickles, bell peppers, squash and watermelons. This is also ranked first in the United States in the value of production of oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and sugarcane for sugar and seed. Florida got the second rank in the United States in sales of greenhouse and nursery products, sweet corn and strawberries.

Manatees are a migrant species and that are concentrated in Florida in the winter, but can be found as far west as Louisiana and as far north as Virginia and the Carolinas in the summer months. The Manatee grows well in warm, shallow rivers, bays, estuaries and coastal waters as Manatee have an unusually low metabolic rate, they usually don’t live in waters that are below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. They often live in the warm run off water of power plants.
